March 2014 saw the fewest number of animals taken in at the Blount Co pound since it opened in 2006--138. March 2014 intake was down 30% from March 2013 and down 53% from March 2009, the year before "Fix Your Mama!"started transports to Irondale's Alabama Spay/Neuter Clinic. Intake the first quarter of this year is down 17% from 2013's first quarter.
Still, 138 animals were taken in at the pound in March and 69 of them lost their lives--50%. Most of the animals listed as rescues were taken in by Crossing Paths Animal Rescue, FYM's parent 501c3.
"Fix Your Mama!" now fixes male pit bulls for Blount County residents for a donation as well as female dogs and female cats. Pit mix puppies are especially hard to adopt and too often end up in bad circumstances.
Many thanks to Alabama Spay/Neuter for their free transport program and to Alabama Animal Adoption Society and Friends of Cats and Dogs Foundation who help make this s/n program possible. Thanks also to our dedicated FYM volunteers who are out cheerfully at 6am, rain or shine, snow or sleet, month after month, to make this happen for the animals of Blount County. And a big thank you to Blount County residents who care about stopping the cycle of unwanted animals in Blount County and know that spay/neuter is what it takes to save innocent lives.
Your donations go a long way to keep the program going.
